Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Princess May Primary School. Princess May is a community school maintained by Hackney Council, so places in Reception to Year 6 are allocated by Hackney Education in line with the borough’s admission arrangements.

Nursery

We admit children to our Nursery all year round, and your child can start as soon as they turn 3. You can apply online when your child is two and a half by completing our Nursery application form. If you need help applying, please contact the school office on 020 7254 1589 or email admin@princessmay.hackney.sch.uk.

Part-time places (15 hours)

All three and four-year-olds in England are entitled to a free part-time nursery place, whatever your income. Part-time children attend from 8:45am to 11:55am.

Full-time places (30 hours)

If you would like your child to attend full time, please apply for a 30 hours free childcare code. If you are eligible, your child can attend from 8:45am to 3:25pm every day. You can check what support you could get using the childcare calculator.

Reception (starting school)

Applications for Reception must be made to Hackney Education, not to the school. You can find out how to apply and the closing dates on the Hackney Education website, and apply online through eAdmissions.

Joining during the school year (in-year admissions)

All applications for places in Reception to Year 6 during the school year are handled by Hackney Education. Please see making an in-year application.

Admission arrangements and oversubscription criteria

Hackney Education sets the admission arrangements for community schools, including how places are allocated when there are more applicants than places. These are published on the Hackney Education admissions pages.

Appeals

If your child is refused a place, you have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel. Appeals are organised by Hackney Education. Please see Reception class appeals or in-year appeals for how to appeal and the appeals timetable.
